Sister Mary Michele Croghan of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, served in education ministry, 85 Sister Mary Michele Croghan, 85, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, N.J. The wake and prayer service for Sister Mary Michele Croghan will be held at The Villa at Florham Park, N.J., on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the liturgy at Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, N.J. Sister Mary Michele Croghan was born in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of Michael Thomas and Grace Leavy Croghan. She entered the Sisters of Charity on Oct. 2, 1949, and was a member for 67 years. Sister Mary Michele graduated from The College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station with a B.S. degree in elementary education and from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Conn., with a master's degree in American Studies. She served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She taught at Epiphany School in Cliffside Park, N.J.; St. Patrick School in Jersey City, and St. Philip the Apostle School in Saddle Brook, N.J. She then became principal at St. Philip School. Sister Mary Michele entered the Transition in Ministry Program at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson, N.J., in 2004. She retired to the Villa in 2013. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Tom, Martin, and John. Sister Mary Michele is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sisters, Rita and Tom Hodge, Patricia Enders, and her sister-in-law, Nancy Croghan; nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, N.J. 07961-0476 would be greatly appreciated.
