Warren C. Brainard, 87, of Coal City, IL, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Warren was born December 31, 1929 in Postville, IA to Calvin and Vernie (Vickery) Brainard. He served in the United States Navy, earning the rank of EM3, aboard multiple submarines. He married Frances L. Neve on May 24, 1953 in Avoca, IA. They were married for 56 years until the time of her death in 2010. He retired after 26 years as an electrician with Commonwealth Edison. He ran his own company, Brainard Electric. Warren owned the Off Broadway Lanes Bowling Center in Coal City and later Diamond Liquors Bar and Banquet Hall. He was a handyman at Apache Wells R.V. Park in Mesa, AZ, where he spent his winters.

The man who didn’t have time for golf became an avid golfer. He also bowled for many years.

Warren is survived by his three daughters: LaDonna Wharrie of Coal City, Patricia (Jennifer Dickey) Brainard of CO, and Lorraine (Robert) Brainard of Coal City; son Calvin (Mary) Brainard of Pontiac; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister Janet (Ed) Thornley of Joliet; brother Dean (Bev) Brainard of Braidwood; daughter in law Shannon Brainard of Chapin, SC; and Carol Brainard of Coal City. Also surviving is his special friend Donna Skulborstad, of SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fran; son Ralph Brainard; grandson Michael Brainard; two sisters Eloise Bouchard and Sally Forcillo; and two brothers Kenneth and Gary Brainard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Warren’s name to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ferrari Funeral Chapel (corner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive) in Coal City with Pastor Caleb Counterman officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ferrari Funeral Services. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held privately at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
