Son of John Baker and his first wife Nancy Margaret Isbell.
According to a family tree, he died in 1862 (others say 1863) during the Civil War, at which time he was married (wife unknown) and living in Lawrence Co., Mo.

There were several John Bakers who enlisted as Civil War soldiers.

One John W. Baker, son of Jesse and Nancy Baker, married and died in the Civil War. Possibly some have confused this John W. Baker with John and Nancy Margaret Isbell's son. This John W. Baker married 23 Sep 1858 in Boone Co., Mo. to Paulina Grant, daughter of Daniel and Nancy E. Grant (her 2 marriage records say Perlina Grant). This John W Baker died 1863 because widow "Perlina" Baker married 31 Oct 1865 in Boone Co., MO. to Joseph "Daly" (Daily).

In 1870, widow Paulina Dailey age 27 lived in Boone Co., MO., Joseph Dail(e) was deceased, and she had other several Baker children living with her, the orphans of at least another deceased Baker brother:
James Baker 7 (1863)
Sallie Baker 5 (1865)
Josephine "Baker"(Dailey) 3 (1867)*
William "Baker" (Dailey) 1 (1869)
second group of children:
Mary F Baker 11
Alice Baker 9
Frank Baker 5

*Social Security application by Josephine Dailey (Mrs. Charles H.) Wiest (born 30 Oct 1866 Boone Co, MO) shows her parents were Joseph Dailey and Paulina Grant.

Not to be confused with another John W. Baker who married Palina Johnson and lived in Texas County, Missouri.
