∼FR. F.X. FEESER, ADAMS NATIVE, DIES IN PHILA.
The Rev. Fr. Francis X. Feeser, 71, a native of Conewago in Adams County and a founder of Harrisburg Catholic High School, now Bishop McDevitt High School, died Monday at Villa St. Joseph's, Philadelphia. He has been retired and in ill health for many years.
Father Feeser, who held Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from St. Charles Seminary, Philadelphia, and St. John's College, Little Rock, Ark., respectively, attended St. Patrick's Parochial School in York before entering the seminary for his priesthood studies. He was ordained in Philadelphia on May 14, 1914.
Father Feeser was principal of old Harrisburg Catholic High from 1918 until the early 1930's, when under the direction of the late Bishop Philip R. McDevitt, he took the lead in founding the new high school, later named for the bishop. He later served as pastor of St. Mary's Church, Harrisburg, and at McSherrystown before being forced to curtail his activities because of failing health.
Among the survivors are a niece, Mrs. Douglas Sabold, and a nephew, Joseph Feeser, both of York.
A Solemn Pontifical Mass of Requiem will be celebrated in York in St. Patrick's Church at 11 a.m. on Friday by the Most Rev. George L. Leech, bishop of Harrisburg. Two nephews of Father Feeser, the Rev. John Feeser of Nesquehoning, and the Rev. Henry Chinery, Pocahontas, Ark., will be deacon and subdeacon of the Mass, music for which will be sung by St. Patrick's School choir. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The body will be in state in the church from 4 p.m. Thursday until the funeral Mass.
