Deloris Marie Boone Balochie was born at home in Roanoke, Virginia on January 28th, 1932 to Mary Lucy Taylor and Macy Vernon Boone. She spent much of her childhood on her family farm in Wirtz, Virginia during the Depression, learning the core life values of family, faith, and hard work. She attended Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. Deloris and her siblings Carolyn and Daniel were lifelong best friends. Deloris skipped several grades and graduated from Rocky Mount High School at age 16. She attended National Business College and afterwards acquired a job at the Norfolk and Western Railroad offices in Roanoke.

Of her lifelong husband, Duvall C. Balochie, she said “He’s the only man I ever really loved.” They married in 1952 when he was 21 and she 20, against the advice of a local minister. Deloris and “D.C.” had played together when they were children, and their families had kept in touch. They shared life together for 62 years, never, ever doubting their love. They moved around the United States as D.C. worked in the Army and defense industry, finally locating permanently in 1962 in Mountain View, and later, Sunnyvale, California. Their two sons, Eric and Grant, were born soon afterwards.

In 1971 she began what was to become her life’s career, as an owner/administrator of residential care homes for the elderly. Such was her patience, kindness, goodness, and business sense that she enjoyed many years of success. Deloris touched the lives of hundreds of families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ultimately D.C. and Deloris constructed Magnolia Inn in Sunnyvale, the crowning achievement of her career in business and in loving service to others. At Magnolia Inn her husband and children were her constant partners.

Deloris delighted in her grandchildren, Evan and Madelyn, and played with them constantly, giving of herself, always an integral part of their young lives, creating many cherished memories to last a lifetime.

Deloris and D.C. traveled widely in the U.S. and abroad, enjoying each other’s company most especially when they vacationed with family and old friends in their native Virginia.

If you never really met one, Deloris was indeed a compassionate conservative. Her combination of true Southern charm, easy friendship, empathy, and always giving others the benefit of the doubt were her obvious ingredients to a life in harmony with others. Deloris was always reading, always thinking, always learning…a curious gal. Her smile and sense of humor disarmed others wherever she went. We truly never met anyone who didn’t like her.

Much has been lost, but because Deloris lived a full and generous life, very much remains. We do not doubt that she now resides in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and delights in the company of a lifetime of family and friends who now reside there with her.

A woman beloved, a friend forever, a world made better, a life well-lived. Deloris, all you are now resides in our hearts and minds. We shall cherish the memory of our lives with you, and we are blessed.

A funeral service will be held for Deloris on June 10th at 11 a.m. at the Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy, California, with burial immediately afterward at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.
