from the Inyo Register for March 25, 2017:

Ruth Hill, 89, of Laws died in her sleep on March 5, 2017 of natural causes. Born in Lebanon, Indiana, on August 7, 1927, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck. For the past 30 plus years she lived alone in the home she and Chuck built within view of the Laws Railroad Museum in Bishop, California.

A bird watcher, wildlife lover, prolific walker, and lifelong learner, Ruth leaves behind scores of friends in the Owens Valley where she lived since the 1950's. A fan of national Public Radio and a voracious reader, her interests included philosophy, classical music, literature, biology, genetics, astronomy, world religion, and psychology. For the past five years she led an exercise class three days per week at the Bishop Senior Center.

Ruth was a woman of extreme tolerance who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Exceptionally intelligent, she always had a cheerful curiosity about life. Although not a religious person, she was a remarkably spiritual individual who didn't waste time on gossip, past issues, negative thoughts or things she couldn't control. Instead, she invested her energy in the positive, present moment.

Honest, compassionate, unselfish, and thoughtful, Ruth was definitely one of a kind. She will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her. An informal gathering of her friends will take place in the future. To honor her memory, be kind to people and other animals, go for a walk in nature and consider a donation to Eastern Sierra Wildlife Care.
