John H. Hartford, Sr., 65, of Liberty Center, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 2007 at his home. John was born in East Toledo on July 8, 1941 to the late John K. and Edith (Elkington) Hartford. He married Rosemary Bateson in 1963 and she survives. Also surviving are his four children, John (Kathy) Hartford, David (Tamara) Hartford, Leslie (Ken) Barnes, and Jenny Hartford, all of Liberty Center; eight grandchildren; and brothers, Tom (Gloria) Hartford, Lima and Jim Hartford, Calif. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Paul Ray. Following the death of his mother in 1950, John and his brothers were raised in the Lutheran Orphan's Home. He graduated from Waite High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1960-64. He was employed with General Motors in Toledo from 1962 until retirement in 1992, and then worked for Davis Farm Services and Babcock Plumbing. He was a member of Napoleon Post 300 American Legion and was president of the HARC of Hope School, of which he strongly supported. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Condrey presiding. Committal will be private. Friends are invited to visit on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. in the Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center. Memorials are suggested to Henry County Hospice or Hope School.
