Russell N. Holm, 96, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born on March 24, 1917, a son of the late Alfred and Barbara (Theiss) Holm. A lifelong resident of Derry, he was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1936. Mr. Holm was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII on the USS North Carolina where he was a Plank Owner. He had been employed as a Postmaster for the Town of Derry. Mr. Holm was a former member of the Lions Club, and enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, and was a collector of WWII memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bertha (Wiggins) Holm of Derry; two sons, Michael Holm and his wife Paula of Derry, and William Holm and his wife Catherine of Derry; five grandchildren, Heather Bell and her husband Brian, Sarah Roy and her husband Jeremy, Daniel Holm, Taylor Holm, and Angelique Holm; as well as ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Steven Holm and Richard Holm.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday, December 3rd from 3 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial with Navy honors followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, East Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pinkerton Academy Alumni, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038 or to the Sonshine Soup Kitchen, 4 Crystal Ave., Derry, NH 03038.
