Mertis Edith York was born April 11,1926 in Drew, Mississippi, to Thomas Washington McDaniel and Nancy Emaline Izora King and she died in Chickasha on May 3, 2017.

Mertis had been a homemaker and a member of Bible Baptist Church. She lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Ohio and Tuttle, Oklahoma. She and her husband, Jack, pastored several churches, Bible Baptist in Chickasha, New Testament Baptist in Tuttle, New Hope Baptist in Anadarko, and Salem Baptist in Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked at the Sevier Funeral Home in Tuttle for almost 20 years, where she retired several years ago.

She was preceded in death by her daughter JoAnn York, husband Jack York, October 11, 1984 and granddaughter Julie Ann York.

Survivors include son Ronald and wife Darlene York of Santa Fe, NM, son James and wife Jeanee York of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, son Kent and wife Julie York of Chickasha, Oklahoma, son Mark York of New York City, New York, brother Virgil McDaniel of Humble, Texas, sister Joyce Jordan of Kansas City, Missouri, sister Joy Davis of Weatherford, Texas, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Bible Baptist Church, Chickasha with Kent York and Kim Hayes officiating. Interment will be at the Fairlawn Cemetery.
