Dies in Parents' Home After Removal from Hospital
Seven Brothers of Mrs. J. W. Famuliner to Act as Pallbearers at Her Funeral
Mrs. John W. Famuliner, nee Miss Agnes James, died from pyemia at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. James, 821 Jackson avenue, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She was ill five months.
Mrs. Famuliner became seriously ill July 4 and was removed to Christian Hospital in Kansas City. Her condition did not improve, however, and she was brought to Joplin last Monday. Her husband, the Rev. John W. Famuliner, who accepted a pastorate of Fairview Christian church to Wichita, KIan., June 1, remained at the hospital during her illness and accompanied her home Monday.
She was 43 years old, and was born in Alma, Ark., October 16, 1872. On October 4, 1904 she was married to Mr. Famuliner who at that time was pastor of the Christian church at Bentonville, Ark.
A short time after their marriage they moved to Sulphur Springs, Tex., where Mr. Famuliner served a year as pastor. Then they came to Joplin and for a year he was assistant pastor of the First Christian church. The Rev. W. F. Turner was pastor of the church at that time. He later accepted the pastorate of the Villa Heights Christian church, where he remained six years. Later he went to Carterville and was pastor of the Christian church there for two and a half years. He resigned and on June 1 accepted the pastorate at Wichita.
Illness prevented Mrs. Famuliner from joining her husband at Wichita.
Mrs. Famuliner united with the Christian church in Bentonville in March 1904. Throughout her life she devoted her acitivities to her home and was active in church work. She was an accomplished musician and was popular among her acquaintances.
Mrs. Famuliner is survived by her husband, four children, Leah, 2 years old, Mary, 4, James, 9, and Alta, 11; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. D. James, and seven brothers, Dr. Edward D. James of Halyville, Okla., D. W. James of Bentonville, Ark., H. T. James of Joplin, Dr. Bonner James of St. Louis, and Dr. R. M. James, Grover C. James, and Harvey S. James of Joplin.
Her brothers were notified of her serious illness and hastened to Joplin, and all of her relatives were present at her bedside when she died.
The body will lie in state at the residence from 10 o'clock this morning until 8 o'clock. The casket will not be opened at the church.
Funeral services will be held in the First Christian church at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. The Rev. C. C. Garrigues, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. D. W. Moore of Carthage, will officiate. Mrs. Famuliner's seven brothers will act as pallbearers. Burial be in Mount Hope cemetery. A motor car procession will accompany the body to the cemetery.
