DIED

On Sunday morning 2 at 3 a.m., Mr. John Shannon, aged 63 years, 5 months and 23 days. Mr. Shannon Lay ill about five days of pneumonia—his death was calm and he was sensible in his expiring moments.
In the death of Mr. Shannon this community has lost a good and useful citizen; the Presbyterian Church a consistent member; the Y.M.C.A of Centre Hall one of his best pillars, and the Sabbath school causes a lifeslong worker and advocate. The deceased was highly respected by all who knew him for his probity of characterizer, and his walk in life was consistent with his Christian profession. In all the objects above named he was a liberal giver both in time and money, and it seemed to be a labor of love to him to aid any good cause or perform a kindness to his neighborhood and fellow man.
Mr. Shannon has held some important public positions. He was County Treasurer, Jury Commissioner and for many years a Justice of the Peace. All these places he filled faithfully. As a Justice of the Peace he was a model that many might pattern after. His aim always was to reconcile parties who came to him to invoke the law, and thus brought peace out of passion and anger, often saving localities the unpleasantness arising from law suit, and restoring good feeling between the contending parties. This was not to the pecuniary benefit of Mr. Shannon, but that was not the object sought by him, he tried to be a justice of the peace in the full sense of the word.
This community will miss the deceased. He leaves a host of sorrowing friends, neighbors and acquaintances, who feel that a good man has gone to his reward in the land of the blessed. Peace to his ashes.
