Hi, thanks for all your work on Findagrave. I am Leslie Whitley in Decatur, Alabama, [email protected] and have been researching Raleys here. Alexander Buggy Brogden married widowed Sarah Raley Davis in 1868 in Morgan Co. Ala. and bought part of the Davis farm where they must have buried their first son Hiram in 1869 (Wilson Cemetery). Sarah Brogden approved her son N. P. Davis' marriage to Elizabeth Brogden in 1874 so she must have died later that year, and so Thomas Frank Brogden born in Jan. 1873 was her son. After she died, Brogden married Lovie Elliott in 1875. Then they moved to Cullman Co. just south of here before 1880, and then they went to Texas about 1880/81.
Sarah Brogden was first married to Sam Davis in 1852 and had 3 Davis sons who lived and married in this county in the 1870s before Buggy Brogden moved to Texas with their Brogden half-brothers. I feel sure the caravan must have included Elizabeth Raley Stringer Warnick, T.F. and Byrd Brogden's aunt. They were in the Morgan Co. 1880 census then moved to Texas about 1880/81. Brogdens were 1840s members of Bethel Baptist, later Lebanon, in Morgan County. Sarah Raley Davis was the daughter of John and Sarah Raley of Neel in Morgan Co.; John's father was Rev. soldier Charles Raley who moved from SC to AL in 1818 and died in Morgan Co. in 1839.
I am convinced but cannot prove that Sarah Brogden's brother was my g-g-grandfather Charles Parker Raley. Do you know of a family Bible with Raley names in it?
