BOWMAN, Daniel A., born February 18, 1849; died September 14, 1936, aged 87 years, 6 months and 27 days, the son of Joel and Irene (Layman) Bowman. He was born in Franklin Co., VA and lived and died in the same county and state. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren for a number of years.
On February 23, 1871, he was united in marriage to Jane Wray. To this union was born 5 sons and 4 daughters, all of whom survive him except one son, John, who died in infancy. He was the last of a family of 6 children. His children are Benjamin H., Joel P., David L., Nathaniel E., Cassie A. Bowman, Lillie E. Austin, Mary I. Flora and Ethel L. Bowman, 36 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren also survive.
Services were held in the home by the undersigned. Hymn, "Asleep in Jesus" and prayer. Funeral service in the Pig River Church by Frank Layman and and D. A. Montgomery, assisted by J.A. Naff and J. L. Rutrough from Rev. 14:12, 13, and hymns, "Jesus Lover of my Soul: and "Nearer My God to Thee", to a large crowd of relatives and friends, after which his mortal remains were laid away in the family lot beside his companion, who preceded his in death by about 14 months.
