Vida Myrle Colwell passed peacefully from this life Monday, May 1, 2017, in Fort Worth.
Vida was born in Harrison County, Texas to W.C. and Tressie Barker on Aug. 8, 1924.
A lifelong and passionate resident of Longview, she met her future husband, Ray Colwell, at the Duke and Ayers 5 to 10 cent store in 1941. Following Ray's service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he returned to Longview to marry his sweetheart. Vida and Ray enjoyed over 60 years of marriage and raised two sons with patience and humility, of which she was immensely proud. After Ray's retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, visiting all 50 states and five Canadian provinces, most on several occasions (and all by car excepting Alaska and Hawaii). She was an accomplished seamstress and lent her talents to many a church project or fundraiser and to clothes for her delighted grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Longview and of the Cornerstone Sunday School class, which was a lifelong source of friendship and support. Vida will be remembered by her family and friends for her abounding faith and servant's heart. She raised her family to be dedicated to God, and her legacy will be her example of a life lived in Christ.
Vida was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray; grandson, Caleb Jones; and brothers, Wandell and Hulen Barker.
Survivors: Vida is survived by her sons, Mike Colwell and wife, LeeAnn, of Longview; Jerry Colwell and wife, Patti, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Kelly Colwell Rogers and husband, Sam, of Dallas, Ryan Colwell, of Longview, Kayla Jones Souder and husband, Kasey of Longview, and Steve Colwell of Fort Worth; and great- grandchildren, Jack, Everson, and Easton.
