Ray Melton, 87, of Newburgh, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born September 8, 1929, in Poole, Ky., to the late William Jennings Bryan and Flora (Adkins) Melton.
He graduated from Millersburg High School, where he participated in the choir. He loved spending time with his family. Ray was a courtesy shuttle driver for Romain Buick and had resided in Reed, KY for several years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards, reading, traveling to Smoky Mountains and looking for bears in Cade's Cove, 4-wheeling, and camping.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Stroud) Melton; and daughter, Bert (Melton) Fleming.
He is survived by his children, Donnie Melton of Dale, IN, Larry (Shirley) Melton of Newburgh, Judy (Danny) Holder, Wanda (Robert) Moore, both of Evansville, Moneta (John) Holloman of Chandler, and David (Debbie) Melton of Reed, KY; grandchildren, Mark and Tony Parrish, Rick Sanders, Joyce Heck, Melanie White, Willis Sanders, Tara Vanover, Melissa Cook, Ray Alan Melton, Craig and Andy Holder, Rebecca Wargel, Roger Moore, Heather Smith, Johnny Ray Holloman, Stephanie Pride, and Tyler, Kaylee, and Jessie Rae Melton; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 8, 2017, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
