Mary A. Ward, 89, a longtime resident of Leavenworth, WA, died Tuesday,
January 17, 2017, in Wenatchee, WA. She was born November 13, 1927, to Calvin
and Mary (Pendegress) Stinnett n Jefferson City, TN, where she grew up and
received her early education. On May 25, 1946, she married Leonard Ward in
Dandridge, TN. The couple later moved to Morristown, TN, and in 1956, moved to
Leavenworth, WA, where Mary was employed for many years at the Cascade Medical
Center, retiring in 1986.
After retirement, Mary devoted much of her time to her gardening; she
especially loved her flowers with roses being her favorites. She was a stay-
at-home grandma and great-grandma who loved playing cards with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also very involved with the
Leavenworth Senior Center.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Beck of Sydney, Australia; Jayme
Starr of East Wenatchee, WA; Danielle (John) Pelling of Bedfordshire, U.K.;
Lindsay Eastman Smith of Royston, B.C., Canada; great-grandchildren: Kessler,
Khya, Harriet, Bryony and Piper. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Leonard; daughters: Ruth and Terry; five brothers and three sisters.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to celebrate the life of Mary A. Ward will
be held on Friday, January 27, 2017, at Ward’s Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth,
WA, at 11:00 a.m. with a private burial in the Peshastin Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mary’s name.
