Mary Maureen Mortensen graduated from this life on April 29, 2017 after her 9-year dance with breast cancer followed by three years with bone cancer. During this 12 year dance, her optimism and gratefulness was truly amazing! Everyone who knew Maureen, even strangers she would talk to while waiting in lines, were touched by her love, acceptance, and genuineness. She always thought of others and spent much of her life serving and giving of herself, in both small and large ways. Her friendliness and smile lifted up those that were discouraged and made this world a better place.
Maureen is now reunited with her son David, parents, and twin sisters. She leaves behind her eternal companion, Sterling and five children (and their spouses): Alan (Elizabeth), Eric (Alynn), Carol (Scott), Daniel, Laura (Zane), and 11 grandchildren.
Maureen enjoyed a full life beginning with her birth to James Logan Bee and Alice Anderson Bee in Idaho Falls, Idaho on June 6, 1949. She made many memories with her siblings Jim, Deb, and Barb on their dairy farm. Maureen loved to be outside, spending time with her parents, cousins, and best friends Lennae and Wade.
Maureen and Sterling met at the Idaho Post Register and were married June 2, 1972. They dreamt of children, but endured five years of not being able to have kids. Then, less than two years later, they had twin sons and a daughter. They were later blessed with two more children and finally a son, David, who lived only one hour. Maureen never met David in this life, due to a C-section delivery.
Maureen documented the growth of her family over the years through journal entries, taking thousands of pictures, and being at every event she could to support her children and eventually grandchildren. Her favorite name, besides “Mom,” was “Grandma.” She loved to visit with friends, paint ceramics, give foot rubs, and celebrate traditions such as decorating for holidays, making valentine cookie banquets, Easter bunny cakes, dinner in a pumpkin, and going on vacations as a family.
Maureen had a deep and abiding love for her Savior, she knew and trusted Him and saw others through His eyes. She had great faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the safety and protection that comes from “Standing on the Lord’s side of the line.” Maureen loved and accepted others where they were at, a very Christ-like attribute. We have all been touched by her kindness, many acts of services, optimism and gratitude. Maureen, thank you for being a light to so many. You will be greatly missed! Until we meet again.
A viewing will be held Thursday May 11, 2017 from 6-8pm at the LDS church at 11443 McMillan Rd. The funeral service will be held Friday May 12, 2017 at 11 am at the church with family greeting friends from 9:30-10:45am before the service. Interment will be held Saturday May 13, 2017 at 2 pm in Idaho Falls at the Ammon Cemetery.
