A.C. Gilmer, age 80, of Branch Street, New Holland passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Eastside Heritage Center in Snellville following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. James Duncan, the Rev. Doug Burrell and the Rev. Dave Channell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gilmer was born in Hall County to the late Charles Gilmer and Naomi (Jones) Gilmer. He was an avid rabbit hunter and sportsman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an underwater demolition (Frogman). He served as a member of the UDT Team No. 17. Mr. Gilmer was a member of the Bill Vaughn Sunday school class and attended the Young at Heart study class at Blackshear Place Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hearl C. "Duckie" Gilmer; sister, Margaret Gilmer; and an infant brother, Edward Gilmer.
