Edwina M. Sena, age 82, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
Edwina was preceded in death by her parents, Marcial and Ramona Salazar Márquez, her husband, Gilbert Sena Sr., a son, Ruben Sena, daughters, Ramona Sena and Judith Sena, a sister, Lucinda Durán, in laws: Graciano and Cipriana Jaramillo Sena and a son-in-law, Tony Hernández.
Edwina is survived by three sons, Matthew G. Sena Sr. and his wife, Rose of Las Vegas, NM, Gilbert Sena Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann of Albuquerque, NM, Marcial Sena and his companion, Yvonne Salazar of Las Vegas, NM, three daughters, Mary Hernández of Savage, MN, Cynthia Sena Martínez and her husband, Dez of Anchorage, Alaska and Stacy Jaramillo and her husband, Felix of Las Vegas, NM, 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Edwina was born on Ojo de Chapelle near Bernal, NM on September 7, 1929.
Edwina was a 1947 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and in 1942 won the school, district, and state spelling bee contest and was selected to participate in the National Spelling Bee. Edwina taught Religious Education for 47 years, from 1943 until 1990.
Edwina was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Alter Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. Edwina along with her husband Gil were mayordomos at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, collecting Peanut comic strips, watching old movies and musicals and enjoying her collection of owls, elephants and wind chimes. Her pastimes included bingo, solving puzzles and playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
First and foremost she was a loving wife and mother. She worked as a locksmith, bookeeper and secretary in the family business, Gil’s Lock and Key Shop.
A visitation will take place on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 1:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzáles Funerals and Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. All services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with at rosary on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated by Father Douglas Mitchell on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in the Santo Niño Cemetery in Los Alamitos, NM with the following serving as casket bearers, Mathew Sena Jr., Marcos Jara, Anthony Hernández, Chase Martínez, James Ortega, Diego Lucero, Kevin Stoddard and Alex Martínez.
