Mrs. S. S. Withers Passes After Brief Illness from Pneumonia - Sister of Dr. W. H. Hoffman - Interment at Stanley.
Mrs. S. S. Withers, a highly respected lady and widow of the late John Withers, died Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock following an illness of only a few days from pneumonia. Mrs. Withers was in her seventy-fourth year and, on account to her advanced age, was unable to withstand the ravages of disease. She had been seriously ill only since Wednesday previous to her death. The end came at the home of Mr. Gus Moore, her nephew with whom she had lived for many years, on the Dallas-Stanley road a short distance north of the bridge.
The funeral was held from Christ Lutheran church, Stanley Lutheran church, Stanley, Sunday morning and the body was laid to rest beside the remains of relatives in the Stanley Cemetery.
Deceased was a sister of Dr. W. H. Hoffman, of Gastonia, he being now the sole survivor of the immediate family. Her only child, Banks Withers; preceded her to the grave some twenty years and her husband thirty-two years. Since then she has resided with her nephew, Mr. Moore. Mrs. Withers had many friends in Gastonia and Gaston county, to whom the announcement of her death will bring sorrow.
