Albert R. Caseiro passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 23, 2017. He was 89.

He was born March 6, 1928 in Burlington, N.J. to Manuel and Theresa Caseiro. He attended schools in Burlington and later received his Bachelor's degree in Business from Rider College.

He worked as a tax accountant for many years in Philadelphia, New York City and Maine. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Japan for a period of time during the Korean War.

He married Darlene Perkins in 1955 and they raised their family in New Jersey until he accepted a job in Maine with Canal Bank. He worked there for 17 years until his retirement in 1990.

Albert had a deep connection to his New Jersey roots and Portuguese heritage. He often struck up a conversation with anyone having a New Jersey license plate.

He attended Lifeline at USM for over 30 years, beginning with the jogging program and eventually excelling at step aerobics, which he continued until the age of 87. He established a network of friends and appreciated the instruction of Lisa, the aerobics teacher.

After his retirement, his greatest enjoyment was attending performances by the ChoralArt Society, Bates Dance Festival, Portland Jewish Film Festival and USM School of Music, especially the faculty concerts. He was a communicant of Holy Cross church and developed a closeness with two young friends, Nicholas and Lucy.

He had tremendous love for his family and shared a special relationship with his grandchildren, with whom he spent many hours reading, teaching simple games and attending sporting events. He provided them with many clever phrases and wonderful memories.

He took great pleasure spending time by the ocean, particularly at Long Beach Island and Bug Light. He and Darlene remained connected through their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sam; his sisters, Mary and Josephine; and his daughter, Terri.

He leaves behind his son, Chris Caseiro and his wife, Kathy Mullen, of Scarborough, Maine; his daughters, Lisa McCrillis of Scarborough and MaryBeth Caseiro and her husband, Mark Burke, of Brattleboro, Vt.; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua and Olivia McCrillis, Kevin Burke, John Burke and his wife, Nicole, and their son, Henry, Katie Burke and Matt Burke and his wife, Danielle. He also leaves behind two special nephews, Ronnie Caseiro and Lee Dalton.

A heartfelt thank you to Alec, Deb and Dr. Ravi at Mercy Hospital for their kind care and gentle guidance.
