Funeral services were held at County Line [Baptist] Church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock for George Dewey Halstead, 50, well-known Schley Countian who died Saturday at 6:10 AM of injuries suffered in an accident two weeks previously. Mr. Halstead was engaged in skidding logs in the Midway Community [when the accident happened]. He was taken to Prather Clinic in Americus for treatment.

The son of S. [Simon] Bentley Halstead and Lucinda Grantham Halstead, Mr. Halstead was a native of Schley County and spent most of his life here. He married Miss Odis Odelle Watkins of Columbus on April 17, 1917. He was a veteran of WW I and a member of County Line Baptist Church.

The Rev. J. J. Whitley officiated at the funeral and burial was in the church cemetery.

Members of Thomas Edwin Wall post 191, of the American Legion, took part in graveside rites. The coffin was draped with the United States flag and a bugler sounded taps.

Pallbearers, all World War I veterans, were Harry D. Murray, N. R. Patterson, A. H. Richardson, C. C Williamson, T. W. Wall, and Don Wall. Nephews formed an honorary escort.

Surviving beside his widow are three sisters, Mrs. H. C. Myrick, Panama City Fl; Mrs. L. Henry Albany; and Mrs. W. A. [Mavis] Myrick, Schley County; five brothers, S. B. Halstead, Albany; S. A., J. G., and M. C., Cairo Ga; and H. G. Halstead, Schley County [Ga].
