He was born February 9, 1921 in Southwest Township, Crawford County, IL, the son of Ivil and Bertha Ann (Legg) Albert, both of whom preceded him in death.
He married Geneva Dedrick in Troy, MO on August 29, 1942, and they were married for 72 years before she preceded him in death on August 24, 2014.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Faulkner and Lovel Paddick; and his son-in-law, Joe Hall.
He is survived by his children, Larry Albert (Murray, KY) and Peggy Hall (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Rob Minnick (TX) and Melissa & Patrick Sanders (Robinson, IL); by two great-granddaughters, Alison Sanders and Paige Sanders (Robinson, IL); by his brother, Paul Albert (Speedway, IN).
Leonard was a 1939 graduate of Bridgeport High School, and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was stationed at an air base in Iceland.
Back home, he ran his own trucking business before going to work for Farm Service. Away from work, he enjoyed bowling and was even a member of a traveling bowling league for a number of years. He and Geneva were also avid gardeners when they lived in Robinson. After he retired in the early 1980s, they moved to Zephyrhills, FL, where they lived for over 30 years. Following the loss of his beloved wife, Leonard moved back to Robinson, and lived in Timber Creek Village for the last two and a half years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Robinson, IL for over 40 years.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24th at the Robinson New Cemetery, with military honors to be performed by the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. Pastor Aaron Peternel will officiate the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund or to Honor Flight, Inc., a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans by transporting them to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Memorial envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
