Mrs. Muriel Estelene Ruddlesden Cowan, age 100, a resident of Sophia, NC, went home to be with her husband, Orval Cowan, and her Lord and Saviour on Monday April 24, 2017, at the home of her granddaughter, Cindy Gandee and her husband Jayme. She was born January 29, 1917, in Ritchie County, WV, daughter of the late Edward John (E.J.) and Mary Maude Enoch Ruddlesden. She was a homemaker and attended Trinity Holiness Church for many years. Muriel was married to Mr. Orval Leslie Cowan who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Bunner, and several sisters and brothers. Surviving are two daughters, Pat Ellison and husband Don of Salisbury, NC, and Becky Thornton and husband Tom of Sophia, NC; two sons, Tim Cowan and wife Elsie of Summerton, SC, and Marvin Cowan of Sophia, NC; one brother, Warren Ruddlesden of Waterford, CT; fifteen grandchildren; twenty - three great grandchildren; and seventeen great – great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Trinity Holiness Church with Rev. Tim Cole and Rev. Derald Hunt officiating. The interment will follow in Heath Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, NC and at other times at the home of the grandson, Tommy Thornton 4507 Plainfield Rd. Sophia NC 27350. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Holiness Church, 5017 Plainfield Rd., Sophia, NC 27350, or to Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203.
