Ella-Margaret 'Dottie' Estright Dickenson, 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in Community Hospice, Jacksonville, FL. Born in Lynn Haven, FL on January 23, 1931 she was the daughter of Herbert and Ella (Estright) Callin. She attended Marianna High School and married John Dickenson on August 19, 1951. Prior to her marriage, Dottie worked on the family dairy farm in Marianna, FL. After her marriage, she followed her U.S. Army Air Corp husband to the many places he was assigned, including Washington, DC.
Dottie loved to care for children and spent many years as a teacher's assistant for Operation Moving Ahead, a program designed to help underprivileged children in the metro Washington area. She also had a financial career as a customer service representative, retiring from Citizens Bank of Maryland in 1991. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, baking, playing Pinochle and in her later years, cruising and vacationing with the family.
Dottie is survived by her husband, John Amos Dickenson and their daughter, Margaret Ann (Dickenson) Quintana and her husband, Tony. Also surviving are numerous foster grandchildren; one sister Flora Ida (Callin) Aldrich and several nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and two great great nephews and a niece.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. A private inurnment will be held in Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
