Born March 22, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Mildred and Zeb Vance Brendle of Lincoln County. Mrs. Upton was the wife of the late Rev. Coman R. Upton. She was a foster grandparent at Western Carolina Center in Morganton for 26 years.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Smith and her husband, Shirl, of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Coman Smith and his wife, Pamela, of Tampa, FL, Lemmie Smith and his wife, Jenny, of Claremont, NC, and Cindy Schultz and her husband, Larry, of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Kimberly Smith, Joshua and Matthew Smith, Tracey Smith, Ryan and Kelly Schultz; a sister and three brothers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 18, 2001 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 PM Saturday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
