Passed away Monday following a lengthy illness.

Son of Cecil Barb and Freeda Alice Conrad Hampton.
Married Barbara "Barkie" Ann Dale October 3, 1947. She survives.
Also surviving are children Sherry (Phil) Mahoy, Tom (Sue) Hampton, Bruce Hampton, Margie Hampton, Phil (Amy) Hampton and Brent (Lorianne) Hampton; grandchildren Carrie, Jill, Ryan, Angela, Megan, Josh, Steven, Matthew, Adam and Breanna; great-grandchildren Chase, Alysse, Gabe, Mallory, Jacob, Samantha, Olivia and Ethan; sister Janet McClaskey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucille Lang and Maxine Cook and brothers Frederick and John Hampton.

1944 graduate of Darlington High School.

and worked at RR Donnelley for 43 years. He was a graduate of the Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII and retired as a Major. After discharge, he enlisted in the Service Battery 139th Field Artillery Battalion Indiana Army National Guard in Darlington and was appointed 1st Sergeant. Upon being commissioned, he served as Ammo Train Commander and later as Battery Commander. After redesignation of the unit in 1959, he was assigned to Battalion Staff as S-4.

He was a member and past commander of Darlington Legion Post 302, Elks Lodge 483, Linden Lodge 697 F & AM, Reserve Officers Association and Darlington Methodist Church. He was also Franklin Township Trustee for 20 years.

He enjoyed fishing, selling paper weights at flea markets, traveling to Florida, doing carpentry work for his family, playing cards and dominos, and making peanut butter fudge and homemade ice cream.

He was honored to travel to Washington, D.C. and visit the WWII Memorial and other sites with the Gold Star Honor Flight.


Graveside services with military rites 11:30am Friday, April 21 with Reverend Mike Whitacre officiating.
