Olive Marie Evans, age 96, of Kahoka, MO, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the Clark County Nursing Home. She was born Olive Marie Day on a farm near Peaksville, MO on Feb. 26, 1903, the daughter of Geneva Allen Christy Gilbert and Otha Marquis Day. She resided in Clark County all of her life.
On Oct. 24, 1923, she was married to Arthur Gilbert Evans at the home of the Christian minister in Keosauqua, Iowa. Olive and Arthur lived most of their married life on the farm where she was born. Together they raised registered Hereford cattle.
She was a lifetime member of the Peaksville, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) having been baptized in 1915. She was an active member in the church's Christian Womens' Fellowship, Sunday school, and served as church secretary for nearly 40 years.
Olive was a 72-year member of Kahoka Chapter #40 Order of the Eastern Star and a past Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Grand Cross of Color and an active Rainbow Grandmother.
Olive was an avid doll collector and made all of her dolls' dresses and petticoats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a half brother, Mr. Jasper Gilbert, and a half sister, Opal Gilbert, who died as a child.
She is survived by one nephew, Otha Edward Gilbert and his wife Ione, of Kahoka; a great nephew Minister Richard Gilbert and his wife, Teresa, of Keokuk, IA; great nieces, Joyce Johnson and her husband, Bob, of Anchorage, AK; and Rose McAfee and Rusty Smith of Kahoka; five great-great nephews; one great-great-niece; six great-great-great nephews and six great-great-great nieces.
