Edward Oltman, 88, of Pickrell died at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams on Thursday, April 13, 2017. He was born November 4, 1928 at rural Pickrell and attended country school near Pickrell. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Edward Oltman and Dorothy Wallman were united in marriage on November 19, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor John Hieronymus. They farmed in the Pickrell and Cortland areas until 1993. They moved into Pickrell in 1990. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served on the church council several times and was active in the Brotherhood of the church. He enjoyed umpiring, playing church softball, bowling, playing cards in Pickrell and golfing.

Survivors include six children, Linda (Dean) Young of Lincoln, Debra (Bob) Krueger of Omaha, Dianne (Bruce) Way of Imperial, Eugene (Carol) Oltman and James (Beth) Oltman of Cortland, and Laura Oltman of Angleton, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie (Ervin) Buhr of Adams and Eleanor Scheetz of Beatrice; one brother-in-law, Eldon (Lorene) Wallman of Beatrice; three sisters-in-law, Angeline Oltman and Mildred Fossler both of Beatrice and Phyllis (Ron) Lahm of Omaha; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Diedrich and Antje Oltman; his wife Dorothy, who died March 20, 2015; one grandson, Andrew Krueger; two sisters, Lena Ideus and Helen Jurgens; three brothers, Lenhart Oltman, Dick Oltman and Reinder Oltman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Monday at the church. A memorial has been established to the ELCA World Hunger. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Saturday and on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family meeting and greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and then at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday.
