He was born November 20, 1929 at Norton, a son of the late Ode and Edna Waybright Bodkin.
On June 25, 1950 in Parsons, he was married to Josephine Pennington Bodkin who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, Johnny Bodkin and wife Linda of Elkins and Ronald Bodkin and wife Cindy of Montrose.
One daughter, Brenda Vanscoy and husband Willis of Elkins; one brother, Tom Bodkin, York, PA; two sisters, Margaret Howell, Moorefield, WV and Sue Sherman of Parsons, WV; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Jack, Junior, Jim and Billy Bodkin and two sisters, Wanda Lamb and Beverly Bodkin.
Mr. Bodkin attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed by Kelly Foundry for forty eight years prior to his retirement.
John was a devout Protestant and humbly served the Lord his entire life.
Friends may call from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Sherman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
