Nettie A. Green Dead at Age 88

Nettie A. Green, 88, E 2723 Providence, member of a pioneer family who settled in the Inland Empire in 1889, died yesterday in a Spokane hospital.

Born in Springfield, MO., she came here with her family when her grandfather, John F. Green, became one of the first settlers in the Harrington area near Davenport.

The family's struggles were the subject of an autobiographical book written by Mrs. Green's grandmother before she died in 1944 at the age of 93.

Robert L. Green, Mrs. Green's husband also farmed near Harrington before the couple moved to Spokane in 1920 and he took a job with Western Fruit Express Co. He died in 1946.

She was a Gold Star mother, having lost a son during World War II.

She is survived by two sons, Robert F. and Raymond W., Spokane; one daughter, Mrs. A. C. (Betty) Engstrom, Los Altos, Calif., seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Thornhill-Geraghty's. The Rev. Dewey Oberchain, Hillyard Christian Church, will officiate and burial will be at Greenwood.
