"Joseph Willoughby, second representative of the town, built a house, now the residence of his grandson, D. W. Smith, on road twenty-four, about the year 1781. It has since, however, been remodeled and refitted by Mr. Smith." (Gazetteer and Business Directory of Addison County, VT, for 1881-82; Hamilton Child, ed., c1882)
