SCOTTSDALE — Eugene Romney Jr, 77, founder and retired president of Romney Produce Co, died 31 May 1984 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

Mr Romney of 7123 E McDonald was born in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and had lived in Arizona 65 years. He was a graduate of the Gila Academy in Thatcher. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and master’s degree from New York University. He started his company in Duncan in 1928 and moved the company headquarters to Phoenix in 1953. He retired in 1972.

He was president of the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association in 1969 and was on the boards of the United Transportation Association and National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was a patriarch in the Phoenix Camelback Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his wife, Lorena M; daughters, Carolyn Radmall and Louise Jensen; sons Eugene III, David and Stephen D Romney; four brothers; 24 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Services will be 10 am at the Scottsdale Stake Center, 2202 N 74th St. Friends may call from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at Shumway’s Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S Dobson, Mesa, and one hour before services at the church. Memory Lawn Mortuary, Phoenix, made arrangements.
