Richard P. Barragan, 67, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Mountain View Medical Center in Las Cruces.
At his request, cremation has taken place under the direction of Baca's Silver City Crematory and Baca's Funeral Chapels. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
Mr. Barragan was born on September 17, 1941 in Silver City to Manuel M. and Ramona (Peña) Barragan. He liked to spend time outdoors with his sons and a special friend, John Bevill. He also liked gardening and working with his livestock. He enjoyed woodworking, spending the weekends going for rides with his wife and helping at The Daycare. He retired as a supervisor from the Town of Silver City after 38 years of service. He will be greatly missed.
Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lupe Jacquez Barragan; daughter, Yvonne and Richard Maldonado ; sons, Richard and Diana Barragan, Bill and Liz Barragan, Gilbert and Cyndi Barragan and Jack and Corina Barragan, and a daughter whom he raised, Alicia Carrasco; brothers and sisters, David & Arlene Barragan, Jimmy & Grace Barragan, Candelario & Jeanie Barragan, Manuel & Reina Barragan, Linda & Rudy Jacquez, Delia & Junior Altamirano, Molly & Dennis Acosta, Rufina Chacon, and Connie & Danny Parra. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Anna, Tim, Renee, Billy Ray, Adam, Joe, Roselynn, Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Alexandra, great-grandchildren, Leihlonie and Jordan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Richard Maldonado, Jr.
