George C. Fisher was 18 years old on August 24,1864, when he enlisted in the United States Army as a Private. On September 16, 1864 he was sent to Company I of the 173rd Ohio Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 6/26/1865 at Nashville, TN.
He and Elizabeth Lambert were married on January 12, 1871. They lived in Ironton,Ohio, where their first child, my grandmother, Lucy Elizabeth Fisher Nicholls, was born in 1872, followed by daughter Nora in 1874. They moved to Russell, Greenup Co, Kentucky, where their next 3 children were born. Nora and sister Matilda ("Tillie") did not marry, and are buried in Woodland Cemetery with their parents. The other 3 are buried in Kentucky.
