After a brief but intense battle with cancer, Wayne Compton passed into eternity April 7th, 2017. Wayne was born April 1st, 1948 to Steedly Compton and Doris Tracy Compton. Wayne was a humble person and well thought of by all who knew him. He was blessed with a great sense of humor. Wayne, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, graduated in 1966 from the Bolles school as the salutatorian of his class. He then attended the University of Florida on an athletic scholarship (football). Following undergraduate studies, Wayne also attended Law school at the University of Florida. He practiced law on the Northside of Jacksonville for 40+ years. He was active in the community serving in leadership roles of the Taylor Care Center's Board, Rotary Club of North Jacksonville and Northside Business Leaders Club. Wayne loved the Lord and was committed to His work. He served as an Elder, Deacon, Teacher and Friend to Lake Forest Church of Christ. Wayne was predeceased by the love of his life, Janice Newcity Compton. He is survived by his sons Alan, Joel and David (Andrea) along with his grandchildren, Canaan, Noah, Andrew and Lily. While Wayne will be missed, his legacy lives on with the impact that he had on family, friends and all those who knew him. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 11 at Lake Forest Church of Christ with Ministers Ryan Frederick and Maynard Booher officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
