Lois Terry, age 95 years, a resident of Goreville, passed away Sunday morning, December 28, 2014, at 6:20 AM at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.

Lois was born July 9, 1919 in rural Cypress, Illinois. She was the daughter of William Leroy Huckleberry and Elenia (Williams) Huckleberry.

Lois was formerly united in marriage to Moses Terry. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her daughter – Joyce Stryker of Goreville; a grandson – John (Ronora) Stryker of Buffalo Grove; and a great grandson – David Stryker.

In addition to her parents and former husband, Lois was preceded in death by:
2 sisters – Mildred Burns and Inez Hall; 3 brothers – Audie , Ishmel, and Allen Huckleberry; her infant twin brother – Morris Huckleberry; and a dear friend – J.D. Ballard.

Lois was a 1937 graduate of the Cypress High School, which was a 3 year high school. She completed her senior year at Goreville High School, graduating in 1938. Lois had worked as the secretary and bookkeeper for Century Hardware & Supply in Goreville.

Lois had been a very active member of her community and was involved in a number of service organizations. She had been a longtime volunteer at the Goreville Ministerial Alliance, a local 4-H volunteer leader for many years, a member of the Johnson County Homemaker’s Extension and a former Shawnee Development Council Board Member.

Lois was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She affiliated with Goreville Chapter # 1009 O.E.S. on October 17, 1947. She had previously been a member of Cypress Chapter O.E.S. Lois had served Goreville Chapter as a member for over 64 years and was a Past Worthy Matron. Lois was also a member of the Dorcas Shrine # 61 White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Lois was a faithful member of the Goreville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Methodist Women’s organization and had previously served on a number of administrative committees.

In her spare time, Lois enjoyed making handcrafted crochet items, painting ceramic figurines, as well as reading and later listening to books on tape.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning, December 31, 2014, at 11 AM at the Goreville United Methodist Church. Pastor Ed Hoke and Pastor R.G. Null officiated.

Burial was in the Cana Cemetery north of Goreville.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, December 30, 2014, from 5 PM – 8 PM at the Goreville United Methodist Church. Eastern Star rites were accorded at 8 PM Tuesday under the auspices of Goreville Chapter # 1009 O.E.S.
