He graduated from Hillsborough High School in Tampa. He then graduated from Tulane University Medical School in 1959 and married Jean Spencer. He served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1958-1964. He practiced ophthalmology in Tampa, FL from 1967 until 1998. He served as President of the FL Society of Ophthalmology in 1985, Chief of Medical Staff of AMI Memorial Hosptial of Tampa 1997-1999, and as an Assoc. Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He married Debra Ann Bradford in 1994. He retired to Cayman Brac, BWI in 1998 and practiced medical ophthalmology in the Brac until 2014.
Dr. Kirkconnell is survived by his loving wife Debra; his children and stepchildren, Glen, Laura, Carl, Amy, True, Chip and Cone. He counts on meeting his first wife, Jean and daughter, Katherine in heaven.
Services will be held on Saturday April 8 at 1:00 PM at Cotton Tree Bay Church of God Chapel in Cayman Brac with the burial following at Stake Bay cemetery. In lieu of flowers - the family requests donations be made to the Tampa Light House For the Blind.
