James B. “Jim” Foster, 85, of rural Edna, passed away at 1:15 a.m., Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Oswego Health and Rehab.

He was born February 3, 1932 at Sunray, Texas to Clyde J. and Lucy M. (Baker) Foster. His parents returned to Ponca City, Oklahoma when Jim was 1 ½ years old and, as a young boy, he attended Enterprise Rural School. Jim farmed and raised hogs with his father east of Ponca City and in 1954 he started a dairy.

On July 17, 1955, he married Rita M. Rothgeb. On April 10, 1968, they purchased a farm near Edna where they made their home, raised their family, farmed, had a dairy, and raised livestock.

In 1975, Jim received the Labette County Dairy Production Award, in 1987 was presented the Parsons New Farmer of the Year Award, and in 1995 received the Kansas Banker’s Soil Conservation Award. He served as a board member from 1984 to 1993 for the Bartlett Co-op Association. Jim served on the Twin Valley Electric Cooperative board for 23 years and was recognized in 1997 for serving as Vice-President from 1982 to 1989 and as President from 1989 to 1995.

He was a member of the Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Jim enjoyed watching old Western movies, riding horses, tending to his cattle, and monitoring the day-to-day activity of Foster farms. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Rita Foster, of the home; two sons, Kenneth J. Foster and his wife, Therese, and John F. Foster and his wife, Tara, all of rural Edna, KS; two daughters, Diana Conway and her husband, Harry, Towanda, KS, and Jane Blackburn and her husband, Sean, Altamont, KS; fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with one “on the way”; and three nieces, Mary Tapp and her husband, Don, and Grace Ann Bath and her husband, Tom, all of Ponca City, OK, and Susie Powell and her husband, Steve, of Marland, OK.
