A Memorial Service for Colonel Albert W. “Bill” Jenrette will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Dixon All Faith Chapel of Lyman Ward Military Academy. A reception will follow the service.

Bill was born on November 6, 1937 in Conway, SC. After graduating from the Citadel, he became a career Army officer. While stationed in Germany, Colonel Jenrette married the former Ursula Klauer. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Big Red One (1st Infantry Division). After his second tour in Vietnam, he became the JROTC Senior Army Instructor at Lyman Ward Military Academy. At the height of the Cold War, Colonel Jenrette held several positions during his second tour in Germany, ultimately serving as a Battalion Commander. During his 25-year career he was a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College as well as The Army War College. Colonel Jenrette received the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. Upon retiring from the Army, he returned to Lyman Ward Military Academy as Commandant of Cadets. After a decade, Bill began a career in the private sector serving as Vice President for Health Data, Inc. in Auburn. He returned to Lyman Ward as President in 2007, and upon retiring from that position, he became Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chancellor of the Academy.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ursula Jenrette of Auburn; his daughter, Jennifer Welsh (George), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, and Elly Welsh all of Baton Rouge; his daughter-in-law, Shannon Jenrette, of Lula, Georgia; grandchildren Corey, Brody, and Megan Jenrette all of Lula. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Jenrette, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2009. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Col. Jenrette’s honor/memory to Lyman Ward Military Academy, 174 Ward Circle, Camp Hill, Al 36850.
