Ellen Virginia Hammond, "Jini", age 97, formerly of Plymouth, Duxbury, and Osterville, passed away on April 2, 2017 in Kingston, MA at Wingate at Silver Lake with her family and friends at her side. She was the loving wife of the late John James Hammond. Born in Boston , she was a daughter of the late Frank and Ellen. She was raised and educated in Wellesley, a graduate of Wellesley High School. She entered the US Coast Guard following her graduation where she proudly served during World War II.

She was employed for years as a secretary for the Eastern Gas and Fuel Company in Boston. Virginia was the devoted mother of David J. and his wife Dale Hammond of CO, Mark Hammond of CA, and Carol Garuti and Lance Ferguson of Plymouth. She was cherished "Nana" of Christopher and Cecilia Garuti. She is also survived by her brother Richard of Ashland as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will take place on Friday, April 7th, 2017 at Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, MA from 9:30 am to 11 a.m.followed by a Funeral Service at Pilgrim Church, 404 Washington St., Duxbury, MA at noon. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:00 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Town of Plymouth Veterans Fund, c/o Veterans Services, 44 Nook Road, Plymouth, MA 02360.
