Fincastle Herald 2-20-1936
Funeral services for Mrs Sue Graybill Simmons, who died last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs B F Moomaw in Roanoke, were held at the Presbyterian Church here Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, the Rev J A Armstrong, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends and relatives. Interment was in the Amsterdam cemetery.
Mrs Simmons, who was 89 years of age, was a native of Botetourt, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Obenchain Graybill. She was the widow of the late Judge William B Simmons.
While she had been frail for some time, her last illness was of short duration and she maintained her mental alertness to the last.
A touching tribute to the love held for her by those of every condition was beautifully expressed by some of the colored people of the town who met at the residence before the funeral and sung spirituals.
She is survived by three children: Mrs B F Moomaw, Roanoke, J W Simmons of ____N.J. and A G Simmons of Fincastle.
Two sisters also survive: Mrs Baxter Logan of Salem and Mrs Alice Bedinger, of Decatur, Ga., and the following grandchildren, Kathryn Kline Moomaw, Harriet Moomaw, Sue Moomaw, B F Moomaw, Jr. Roanoke, Margaret Shelby, James Shelby, C'Bravos Gras, Mexico, Dorothy Sue Simmons and William Montague Simmons of Fincastle. (Thanks to Karen for this obituary.)
