Kenneth B. Wingard, 87, of Gilpin, died at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 3, 2004) in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin.

Born Feb. 17, 1916, in Ford Cliff, he lived at his current Gilpin address for the past 59 years.

He was a 1936 graduate of Kittanning High School.

During World War II, he served with the Army Air Force, 33rd Fighter Control Squadron. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and fought in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

He was a roller helper on the Steckel Mill in the cold mill department of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., West Leechburg, where he worked 37 years before retirning in 1977.

Mr. Wingard was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a past deacon, and the Retirees of the United Steel Workers of America, both in Leechburg, Lower Burrell American Legion, and Vandergrift Golf Club, Allegheny Township, where he was a past vice president.

He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou (Clarence) Zack of Cary, N.C. and Louise H. Groff of Apollo; and four sisters, Viola Cloak and Laura Belle Cloak, both of Templeton, Gladys Clark of Parks, and Alene Schneider of North Huntingdon.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kim Bonner, Sandra Loar, Robert Groff, Edgar Zack and Kevin Groff; and eight great-grandchildren, Kindra Bonner, Linsey Groff, Courtney Bonner, Jeffrey Loar, Elizabeth Loar, Katie Zack, Colten Bonner and Niki Zack.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. Wolfe Wingard ,in 2000; his parents, James B. and Alice G. Heckman Wingard; and three brothers, James, Melvin and Nelson Wingard.

Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CLAWSON'S, Second at Main, Leechburg. Additional visitation will be from noon Saturday until time of ceremonies at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Leechburg, with the Rev. Lyman Erickson officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
