BROOKS--Robert Brooks dies, services on Wednesday
Robert Brooks, Columbus high school teacher, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in St. Mary's hospital where he has been a patient since last Tuesday. He would have been 62 today.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Elstan Coghill officiating. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. today at the Gass Funeral Home where the body lies in state. Burial will be at Montgomery, Ohio.
A native Nebraskan, Mr. Brooks was born Aug. 31, 1903 at Gordon and was brought up at Rushville. After earning a law degree at the University of Nebraska, he practiced in David City and in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was also an insurance claimsman. He worked for Wright Aeronautics during World War II.
Following the death of his wife, Mr. Brooks returned to the University of Nebraska where he earned a Bachelor's degree in education and Master's degree in education in 1958. He was a member of the Columbus high staff the last nine years, principally as an American history teacher.
He was a member of the Columbus Education Association, National Education Association, American Bar Association, Nebraska Bar Association, Knights of Columbus and St. Bonaventure parish.
Surviving are his son, James of Palm Springs, Cal., and three sisters, His parents preceded him in death.
