Nelson Gene Weeks was born in Vernal, Utah on November 20, 1934, the third of four children born to Jessie Holmes and Nelson Owen Weeks.
He graduated from Uintah High School where he was active in Drama and Speech and he played basketball. He graduated in May 1953.
He married Janette Goodrich on November 2, 1953 in the Manti Temple, They had four children. Janette passed away on December 6, 1984.
He married Alta Clark Karren on June 20, 1985 in the Provo Temple. She passed away on October 29, 2007.
Gene lived in Vernal his entire life. He loved the mountains, camping, hunting, and fishing. While growing up beloved working with his father herding cows and riding horses. As a young man he broke horses for his father and others.
He worked at American Gilsonite Company for 20 years, Vernal City, and Utah Department of Transportation before retiring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two sisters, Eva Sweet and Nila Murray. And one granddaughter, Madison Jeantte Weeks.
He is survived by his children: Cheryl Jean Weeks, Katheen (David) Hatch, Jeffery Charles (Janice) Weeks, avid Owen (Margo) Weeks, all of Vernal, his sister Neita Carol White, Las Vergas, NV; four step children: Beverly (Carl) Winters, Larry Karren, Gary Karren, and Lisa Karren, 11 Grandchildren and 33 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Uintah Stake Center (4080 South 2500 East).
Viewings will be Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, and from 9:45-10:45 prior to the services at the Chapel.
Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park, under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
