Donald W. Hopkins, 78, of Brown Hill Rd., Youngsville, passed away Saturday April 1, 2017 at UPMC Hamot in Erie surrounded by his family.
He was born September 29, 1938 in Pittsfield to the late Donald Hopkins and Lucretia (Lehman) Sullivan. Don was a 1958 graduate of Youngsville High School and went on to serve in the US Army from, 1958 until 1961. He had worked for 40 years as a machine operator for SKF USA Inc. in Falconer, retiring from there in 2002. He was a hard worker and loved his job and work family Don was a member of the Youngsville American Legion and was the Union Steward for local #338 for a number of years. He loved Star Trek and anything Sci Fi. Don was an avid golfer, belonging to leagues at South Hills and Cable Hollow. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and their movie days and teaching them to golf.
Don is survived by his loving wife Carol Wilcox Hopkins, whom he married on April 7, 1961, his children:, Cynthia (John Ondrejech) Fellows of Concord, OH, Jeffery (Pennie) Hopkins of Lander, Doreen (Russ) Maine of Sugar Grove, 2 brothers: Paul Hopkins of Lakewood, N.Y. and Robert Hopkins of Washington, PA, his grandchildren: Corey Fellows, Amber Little, Scott Fellows, Joshua Hopkins, Kearsten Maine and Kyle Maine, great grandchildren: Corbin, Erin and Vivian, and his beloved dog Snowball.
In addition to his parents he, was preceded in death by his step father Jerald Sullivan and a sister Shirley Bialczak.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday April 8th, for 1 hour prior to a 3pm memorial service that will be held at the Nelson Funeral home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main St. in Youngsville with the Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain of the Rouse Warren Co. Home, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Youngsville Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren Co. PO Box 68, or to the Warren Cancer Center, 2 Crescent Dr. both of Warren, PA 16365.
