Son of John Grandy Sr. (1720- ) and Esther Wright. Brother to Parker Grandy - Memorial # 139565501. The family relocated from Northfield, MA to Chesterfield, NH as early as 1770. He married (1) Hannah Brooks; (2) Rachel Daniel(s) December 2, 1784 in Chesterfield.

John was a Revolutionary War veteran. While residing in Chesterfield, both John Jr. and his father in 1776 signed a declaration promising to "oppose the hostile proceedings of the British Fleets and Armies against the United American Colonies". On Jun. 15, 1777 John Jr. enlisted in the New Hampshire regiment commanded by Col. Alexander Scammel. He was discharged Jan. 10, 1778.

On Nov. 5, 1781 a person acting as constable under the authority of Vermont accused "that John Grandy did by force and arms oppose him" in his duty of executing a writ of debt on Nathaniel Bingham, at whose home he was visiting. A complaint was made and a warrant to apprehend John Grandy was issued and he was committed to the jail at Charlestown. After some jurisdictional maneuvering between Vermont and New Hampshire officials however, he was released.

He and his father are last noted in Chesterfield at about 1787. Afterwards records become confusing as to which John Grandy is referred to while residing in Wolcott, NY.

Some time between 1787 to 1808, a John Grandy left Chesterfield, NH and settled at Wolcott, Seneca Co. (later Wayne Co.), NY, where he was noted as an early settler. At the first meeting of the town of Wolcott held Apr. 3, 1810, John was elected as a Town Viewer. Other statements are made, but to which John they are specific is unclear. (John 1, it's unknown whether or not he removed from NH to NY - John 2 b. 1744, or John 3, b. 1777. Depending upon who was living at the time the use or absence of the suffixes of senior and junior cause doubt.

John Jr., b. 1744, was deceased prior to Jun. 28, 1850, when his son Benjamin Grandy applied for the widow's pension payments based on his father's Revolutionary War service.
