Born in Florida, a son of Edward Drew Wynn Sr, who was born in South Carolina, and Lilah M Wynn (1875 - 1910) and the step-son of Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Wynn.

He came to Charleston South Carolina to work as a boiler maker for the Navy Shipyard.

He was first married to Ora Almira Hiatt Wynn (1902 - 1971). The marriage was blessed with children including: Elizabeth "Betty" Ora Wynn Rothrock (1923 - 2004); Dorothy Lorena Wynn Adkins (1926 - 1998) Memorial #66226000; Lilah Mae Wynn McCall (1930 - 2000) who was named in honor of his mother; and, Edwina Wynn (1934). The couple divorced in Florida in 1952.

At the time of his death, he was the husband of Dorothy C Wynn whose grave is beside him.
