An Old Settler Dead
Edward Swander died at his home in Galva, Kansas on Saturday October 1, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 24 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 4, at the residence at one o'clock and at the M.E. church at 1:30 o'clock. Burial was in McPherson cemetery. The funeral services were largely attended. Death was caused by an attack of Brights disease.
Edward Swander moved to Kansas from Illinois in 1873 and homesteaded southeast of McPherson, near the Centennial school house. He lived on his homestead until about ten years ago, when he moved to Galva. Deceased was a successful farmer and a good citizen and did his share toward building up this country in the pioneer days. He is survived by a widow, four daughters, Mrs. C.E. Hodge and Mrs. W.A. Cramer, of this county, Mrs. Edgar Speece of Aline, Okla., and Mary Strope of near Argenta, Illinois; two sons Lou Swander of Aline, Okla., and Alfred Swander of Cushing, Okla. Another son, James, died at Chicamauga, Ga., in 1898, a victim of Typhoid fever.
The relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
