Marlene J. Griggs, 80, Escondido, CA, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, in La Hara, Colorado. Family services were held Friday, October 4, 2013, at First Methodist Church, 341 S. Marlene Jo was born August 13, 1933, in rural Linn County [Missouri], daughter of Myron and Amber (Montgomery) Peacher. On June 4, 1955, she married Edward Cole Griggs. Marlene graduated in 1951 from Brookfield High School, in 1955 from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a B.S. Degree in Dietetics, and received her Masters Degree in Human Resource Management Development in 1985 from Chapman University, San Diego. She was an active Girl Scout leader for many years, then served as President of the San Diego and Imperial County Council for five years. She loved to camp and travel. She was a dedicated member of the San Diego Minature Crafter's Club, having served as president for two terms. She also served as a docent for the Escondido Historical House. Survivors include her husband, of the home; son, Keith and wife, Cheryl Griggs, Escondido; daughter, Susan Cox, Woodbridge, VA; three grandchildren; sister, Carolee and husband, Ronald Hall, Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Harriet; and a son-in-law, Rick Dempsey.
